What number gives a result of − 5 when 9 is subtracted from the quotient of the number and 4 ?

the answer is 16

quotient: a result obtained dividing one quantity by another

ok so lets say the "number" is x. this means that x/4 is equal to the quotient. x is 16 since 16 divided by 4 is equal to four. and then we subtract 9 from 4 and that is -5.
